On Monday the Reds finished their 4-game series in Houston with another one-run win. Our guitar-playing right hander, Bronson Arroyo, is an amazing 3-0. The Reds are now 7-5 on the season and only 3 of 8 starters are hitting over 200.
Next stop for the Reds on their longest road trip of the season was Chicago. They bounced back from an opening series loss to win two out of three. Johnny Cueto threw a masterpiece at the Cubs on Wednesday.
Back home, the Reds played a weekender against the Braves. On Saturday and Sunday, the teams took turns pounding each other. The Braves won the close one on Friday night 4-3 when Edinson Volquez just couldn't find the plate. He only allowed one hit in five innings but hit one batter and walked seven; five of those walks came in a row. At the end of the week, the Reds record stands at 10-8 . . . not bad.
The Bengals took part in the NFL draft on Saturday and Sunday. More than any year I can remember, they took exactly the ones the pundits predicted and took advantage of good players who had been passed over by others. Cincinnati had eleven picks and chose a bunch of guys who were honored as the best at their positions in the country. That doesn't always translate into being a good pro but what the heck, it can't hurt. They got the Outland Trophy winner awarded to the best offensive lineman of the year. They got a Nagursky Awards finalist and a Butkus Award finalist. They got the Chuck Bednarik award winner as the nations best defensive player. They got the Mackey Award winner as the nations best tight end. Enough already, lets play ball.
