LAND GIRLS

If you live in an apartment or any rental property, you have a landlord and/or a landlady. That is how we refer to the owner of the property. A Land Girl is not a young female land owner, it is something totally different.

During World War I and World War II, in order to free up as many men as possible for the British Armed Forces, the Women's Land Army was instituted. A similar group was formed in Australia during World War II. Young ladies, 20- or 30-years olds, volunteered to work the land; milk cows, collect eggs, slop pigs, plow fields and bail hay. They called these ladies Land Girls.

Young ladies of the Twenty-First Century, think about doing that for three or four years.
