GOVERNMENT

We see one of the great differences between American Liberal dominated government and American Conservative dominated government in the Health Care issue which is being railroaded into congress as we speak. There are many differences but none more stark than what each thinks the role of government to be. This difference in the role of government has to do with faith in what government can do. In general, Liberals think that government is the better vehicle to accomplish tasks and Conservatives think that it is individuals or private enterprise.

I think that Liberal lawmakers must feel that things put in the hands of private enterprise are out of their control. They want to be in control. If things are not perfect in a situation, they immediately go to more government control (new laws) to solve the problem. They establish new government agencies, if necessary, to administer these laws. In the end, more people are put to work for the government...more people owe the lawmakers something...more people are under their control.

I, for one, think that government is the last place we should go to solve problems. I don't think you can "secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity" by taking away our liberties. Every new law reduces your liberty.

A general principle of mine: the less government the better. To that end, no government should do what a lower level of government could do...the Federal Government should not do what the individual state governments could do...state government should not do what the county government could do...county government should not do what city government could do. The closer one is to the problem, the more likely it is that the laws will actually pertain to that lawmaker. The closer one is to the problem, the more likely the lawmaker will actually understand the problem.

Our Federal Government is growing like an unkept lawn in spring. Not only is grass growing like mad but weeds are popping up everywhere. "Someone, quick, get the weed wacker! Its going to cost us a fortune to get it under control!"

:D
