RED RED WINE

It will probably come as a surprise to you, it did to me, that the first really successful wine cultivation region in the United States was in Ohio. It seems that Catawba grapes were planted in the Ohio River valley area in 1820. By 1840, Ohio was producing wine in large quantity and by 1860, Ohio led the nation in wine production. The civil war interrupted the industry here shortly after that. While not known as a great wine producing region, it is still a $75 million industry in the state.

. . . and I do love my wine!
:D
