My calendar says it is Citizenship Day today. How did this pass me by? I'm not sure I ever heard of it.
I googled it and learned that it is a federal holiday established in 2004 also known as Constitution Day because this is the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution by the Constitutional Convention in 1787. Schools are not closed on this day but they are mandated to teach about the history of the Constitution.
I think this is a wonderful idea. I hope every school spends a lot of time on the Constitution. I just wish our educational system doing this teaching wasn't permeated with liberal ideologues.
