NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

When Alfred Nobel, a Swedish scientist and inventor, died, he willed that five prizes be awarded annually. One of those, called the Peace Prize, is awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."

Jimmy Carter - U.S. President
Mikhail Gorbachev - General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union
Yasser Arafat - Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization
Yitzhak Rabin - Prime Minister of Israel
Shimon Peres - Prime Minister of Israel
Al Gore - Climatologist
