The United States Geological Survey is a part of the Department of the Interior. Their website has a wealth of information relating to science for people of all ages. I see science papers and projects galore for students. One of the links on this site is to the National Geospatial Program. There you will find links to other government sites including great ones for maps of all kinds. I always got off on maps!
