CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

With the Sugar Bowl in tow, the UC fanatics are spending all their energy worrying about whether Brian Kelly will be around to coach against Florida and beyond.

On Tuesday, UC mens basketball was ranked 19th in both the AP and USAToday polls.

Chad Ochocinco got fined $30,000.00 by the NFL for donning Mexican garb after his touchdown catch last Sunday. NFL stands for No Fun League.

On Wednesday, the Musketeers ventured into Manhattan, Kansas to take on the Wildcats of Kansas State. The K-State crew pushed Xavier around in a 71-56 whipping.

On Thursday, UC met the Miami Redhawks in a wild battle downtown at the U.S. Bank Arena. The Bearcats prevailed 63-59 with Lance Stephenson scoring 17 and pulling down 8 boards.

That same night the football team had their year-end banquet and coach Kelly announced to the team that he was going to Notre Dame. It didn't go over too well with the players.

On Saturday, the Reds released Jonny Gomes who did a pretty good job for the club last year. He is 30 years old and was eligible for arbitration. They may want to sign him again if he doesn't sign with another team.

On Sunday afternoon, the Bengals were in Minneapolis to try out the Vikings and they didn't like what they found. Minnesota treated them poorly in a 30-10 beating. They just can't generate offense and the defense is not so good when they are on the field half the time.

Sunday night, the least publicized Crosstown Shootout in memory was played on Xavier's campus. It was one of the roughest, best and most exciting in a long history of exciting contests. It went to two overtime periods for the first time ever and the Musketeers prevailed 83-79.
