CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

On Tuesday, the Bengals made a good move. They signed defense coordinator Mike Zimmer to a three-year contract.

On Wednesday, XU played Charlotte on the road. The Musketeers had a rather easy time with a good 49rs team and won 86-74. Jordan Crawford had 18 points for Xavier.

UC played St. Johns on the road. The Red storm was not as good as the Bearcats but Cincinnati threw the lead and the game away in the final seconds to lose 52-50. Its the third time this year the Cats blew a lead in the last seconds of a game.

Moeller quarterback Andrew Hendrix verbally commited to Notre Dame after his visit to Florida. He also had offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Cincinnati.

Ochocinco is going to the NFL Pro-Bowl as a second alternate. Third best is about where he stands these days.

On Saturday, Xavier took on arch-rival Dayton at Cintas Center and the game was close all the way. The Musketeers seemingly hit every free throw and Dante Jackson had a career high 19 points to hold off the Flyers 78-74.

Later in the day, Cincinnati hosted Notre Dame at Fifth Third Arena and UC honored their football team at half time. The Bearcats tightened up their 'end game' and were able to score with two seconds on the clock to win 60-58. Deonta Vaughn had 15 for the Cats.

The Bengals got a surprise award on Saturday night. Marvin Lewis was honored by the AP as the NFL Coach of the Year.
