CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

Its that time of year . . . March . . . it wont be long now.

On Wednesday, the Bearcats hosted the DePaul Blue Demons and tried a different tact. Yancey Gates and Lance Stephenson who both sat out the last 13 minutes of the overtime loss to Marquette last weekend, were given prime rolls. Gates scored a career high 23 points and Stephenson had a double-double as the Cats won 74-69. Mick Cronin is confused.

In St. Louis the same night, Xavier got 26 from Jordan Crawford and 21 from Jason Love to edge the Billikens 73-71. The Musketeers are now 20-7.

The NFL announced the Bengals would kick off the football season next summer in the Hall of Fame game against the Dallas Cowboys in Canton, OH.

All the Reds are in training camp and practicing as of Thursday. The first spring training game is scheduled for next Friday. If it weren't for the bleepin' snow and cold, I could get excited about that.

Bob Huggins welcomed his old assistant, Mick Cronin, into "hillbilly heaven" on Saturday. The Bearcats broke out into a big 13-poin5 lead early in the first half and led by six at the break. In the second half the Mountaineers fought back to even and it went back and forth to the finish. As usual, the Bearcats weren't able to finish and lost 74-68.
Xavier had a first place battle with Richmond at Cintas Center on Sunday. The teams were very evenly matched and played two overtime periods. Terrell Holloway took over in the second overtime and the Musketeers were able to outlast the Spiders 78-76.
