RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CINCINNATI

Has anyone noticed what has happened to the drinking scene in Cincinnati? There was a time when there was nothing there but a few neighborhood bars, a few restaurant bars and a couple of dark cozy mood places in the downtown area. About the only music was at the Blue Wisp. A few things popped up near the stadium to collect the game crowd. That was about it. Young people needed to head to Clifton, Mt Adams or across the river to find much club action.

Then came the Main Street surge. One club brought on another. Main Street was alive. Crowds filled the streets moving from one place to another. A couple of years and that fizzled out. For a short while after that, there was almost nothing downtown again.

Now its 'dejavu all over again.' I don't get downtown much any more but I stay in touch through the Internet. I can't believe how many clubs there are now or in the planning from seventh street to the river. I suppose one club brought on another once again. Maybe its in anticipation of the casino being built in a year or so. Or maybe its the whole riverfront 'Banks' project that is bringing them out.

What I can't figure out is where did all the young drinkers go and from where do they all come? It seems to me that there is such a great variance in the available places to find expensive drinks. I'm just not sure why that happens.
:o)
