WITHER WEATHER

We returned from a week in South Florida yesterday. As we approached Cincinnati, there was a rainstorm going on that an old Appalachian friend of mine would have called a "frog strangler". The roads were deep in water. We saw two separate accidents where semis had hydro-planed off the highway near the Ohio River. It is a challenge to drive into a foot of water at highway speeds. It scared the bejeevers out of me!

The time was about 10:30 in the morning and the temperature was 71 degrees. That's the big difference between the weather in the Ohio Valley and that in South Florida. Here, the temperature climbs to a crescendo in the late afternoon like a symphony orchestra playing a Mozart etude. In Florida, its AC/DC from the moment you get up in the morning.

After our opening World Cup match, a nap and the return of the sun, I tried to mow the lawn. At 7:oo pm, it was still almost 90 degrees. The humidity was so high that it took some of the wrinkles out of my old face. I was able to finish as the sun was setting around nine.

Wow! Summer doesn't start for another week!
