CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

Xavier basketball took it on the chin this week with the injury to shooting guard Brad Redford. He blew out a knee during practice and is lost for the season. To further complicate the situation, highly touted Freshman Justin Martin has been ruled by the NCAA to be ineligible to play this year.

Friday night lights.

Fenwick was upset by Dayton Carrol 28-21 (Last year they turned a 5-0 start into a 5-5 season; this year they turned a 7-0 record into 7-3...ouch) They played themselves out of a sure playoff spot.

Colerain (1) over Oak Hills 48-6

Middletown (2) over Princeton 31-21

LaSalle (3) upset by Elder (8) 31-28

Moeller (4) over Cardinal Mooney 44-7

Hamilton (5) over Fairfield 45-8

Sycamore (10) over Mason (9) 27-24

Lakota West over Lakota East 27-7

Saturday at noon, the Cincinnati Bearcats had Syracuse in for homecoming festivities. The Orange did not cooperate with the alums and blasted the outmanned Cats 31-7. UC played without starting quaterback Zach Collaros and with a defense so young they are barely out of diapers.

Sunday afternoon, the Cincinnati Bengals played a do-or-die game against the Miami Dolphins at PBS. The offense got an impressive quick start and the defense was really good in the red zone. All that wasn't good enough as the men in stripes fell 22-14 for their fourth loss in a row. That group of Bengals is not a team...they may never be a team.
