First came still photographs, then moving pictures and then moving pictures with sound. I think it's funny how the word 'movies' has prevailed yet the word 'talkies' has not. Talking pictures seems like such a primitive concept...not as primitive as moving pictures.
Thanks to a Christmas present, I went to see a moving, talking picture show last weekend. The presentation was called The King's Speech. It was not only moving and talking, it was moving. This is a mostly true story about King George VI of England and the United Kingdom. His daughter, Elizabeth II, is the reigning queen. I expect that at the annual gala of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science you will hear quite a bit about this moving, talking picture show. I loved it.
One other thing about modern picture shows amazes me. My wife went to the concession stand at the movie house prior to our entering the theater. She paid almost twice the price of admission for one popcorn and one diet cola. Unbelievable! And, of course, we went to dinner afterwards.
