RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

PERSPECTIVE

In the late 1970's, the people of Iran were fomenting a revolution against their government which had been our friend. The Jimmy Lee Carter administration ignored the people and actually took the deposed Shah into asylum in the states as the new government was forming. The result was the new regime was and is belligerent to us and for forty years has been our enemy...has been the cradle of terrorists...has destabilized the the Middle East.

In the late 1980's, the people of Germany were fomenting a revolution against the Soviet government which had built a wall in the middle of their city and severely oppressed the East Germans. Ronald Regan interjected himself and told the Soviets to "tear down that wall." After the revolution, he and his successor, GHW Bush sent experts in to help the Germans re-establish their government. The result has been that for twenty years Germany has been one of our staunchest allies and best friends. It has also harbored a large number of our military.

We are seeing similar revolutions in the Middle East right now. The BHO administration seemed shocked that it is happening and that in itself is shocking. Now they seem too timid to interject themselves into the fray. We can't just sit back and HOPE that the right people take control. The Egyptians are trying to construct a new government as I write. Let's hope we are helping them get it done right. Let's hope because we may have to live with the result for another forty years or more.
