The biggest problem in this country is that this is not ironing day any more. It was when I grew up. Ironing day followed wash day which was Monday. Wash day was Monday because the breadwinner in the family had gone back to work and the kids had gone back to school. All the mothers did the washing on Monday. The family had worn their good clothes to church that Sunday and the kids had dirtied their play clothes that weekend. Everything needed to be washed. All the mothers were home to do it.
These days, washing is done on the weekends or at night. Not only is the mother not there when the kids get home from school, one of the parents is taken away from the kids another night to do the washing. Thank Goodness almost nothing has to be ironed any more.
