Last night a line of thunderstorms rolled through the Ohio Valley. This storm system has spawned a few tornadoes in Missouri earlier in the day. The National Weather Bureau issued tornado watches as the storms came through. This gave our local weather reporters unlimited preemptive face-time on their respective TV stations. I got a chance to watch a couple of them. They had their whizzbang advanced color Doppler radar screens flashing from one setting to another. They were advising people to take cover. They were telling each community how long they had before they needed to take cover. They were searching endlessly for a sign of a twister . . . a twister that never came. At the end, depression set in. In the morning, each station sent out reporters to scour the area looking for damage. One channel found one tree down. The morning news geeks begged listeners to call in with reports of damage. Nothing! Severe disappointment set in. Maybe they'll be luckier later in the week. More storms are forecast.
