Have doctors turned into pharmacists? Here is my experience.
Typical:
1) Listen to the patient's complaint.
2) Check vitals
3) Diagnose illness/problem/condition
4) Order tests
5) Prescribe medicine to bring test results to normal range.
6) Redo tests
7) Adjust medicine as necessary
Whatever happened to cure the problem? Except for infections which are treated with antibiotics, most medicines cure nothing. They only bring the test results into line with generalized averages. On top of that, these averages change periodically.
We have come a long way in the practice of medicine, but we have light years to go. The next time you are prescribed a medicine, ask what it actually cures.
