IRELAND

The Great Famine or Great Irish Famine or the Irish Potato Famine, as it is variously called, took place in Ireland from 1845 through 1852.  In that seven year period, more than a million Irish died and a million more emigrated to other lands.  It was in the middle 1850's that my great grandparents emigrated to the United States.
