If I'm not mistaken, the first car I ever drove - my parents 1956 Chevy - had no way to adjust the elevation of the front seat. All front seats were bench seats at the time. People who were too short for the seat - like my mother - had to sit on pillows or phone books in order to drive. It's funny when you think about it. We have made some progress in the last fifty years.
