Who stole Columbus Day? In most of the Spanish speaking world and, at one time, in the United States, Columbus Day is observed on the date Christopher Columbus landed in the New World; October 12, 1492. For convenience, we switched the celebration to the second Monday in October. Hogwash and poppycock! Next, we'll probably change the name. These Monday observations for convenience sake diminish the importance of the occasion. We should never have let it happen.
