ELECTION

We are now at two weeks until election day.  It's time to remind ourselves how the electoral college works and what happened four years ago. 

BHO received 359 electoral votes and John McCain recieved 179.  270 electoral votes are required to win.

The Pacific coastal states plus the New England states are solidly liberal and add up to over 200 electoral votes.  Illinois contolled by Chicago and Minnesota controlled by Minneapolis are connected to the coasts and provide 30 more votes.  That's about 230 in the bag for the Democrats. 

The central part of the country and the South less Florida are mostly conservative and add up to about 200 electoral votes even though it is by far the larger territory.  That leaves about 100 votes to be decided. 

The critical  100 votes come from Florida (29), Ohio (18), North Carolina (15), Virginia (13), Wisconson (10), Colorado (9) and Iowa (6).  Everyone's vote counts --- especially if you live in one of these states.
