NEW JERSEY

Is there an Old Jersey?

What's new in New Jersey?

Here's what you might not know.  New Jersey is the most populated state in the Union (most citizens per square mile).  New Jersey has the third highest median income in the country.  New Jersey gets screwed the most by the federal government;  giving very much in taxes and getting little back.  The Jersey Shore is mostly beautiful.  The New York Jets and New York Giants play their home games in New Jersey.

Here's what's new.

New Jersey issued its first permit this week for a storefront to dispense medical marijuana.  It passed a law legalizing medical marijuana usage in 2010 to join 16 other states and the District of Columbia which have similar laws.  I had no idea that there were that many states with existing laws.  Six other states, including Ohio, have pending legislation.

On another front, New Jersey announced this week it will begin allowing sports betting on January 1, 2013 (assuming the world does not end on Dec. 21).  The NCAA immediately pulled it's planned tournament basketball games from the state.   Silly boys.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is one of the rising stars in the Republican Party.  The above actions make me think he will be very attractive to the Libertarian wing in future presidential politics.
