WORDS

You know I love words and their etymology.  Knowing where a word comes from helps in understanding it's pronunciation.  This crossed my mind the other day.

Our Southern state, known as the Heart of Dixie, is Alabama.
It was named after an Indian tribe which inhabited the area when European settlers arrived.
It is pronounced al-a-bam'-a.

The President of the United States is Obama.
He got his name from a Kenyan.
It is pronounced o-bomb'-a.

Ain't that the 'bomb'?
