RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

BUFFALO

My friend, Nikki, who died of melanoma last July made a car trip to Colorado every year for the last ten or so.  She loved the Rocky Mountains and was afraid to fly.  Sometimes she, her husband and daughters took a side trip to Yellowstone, or the Black Hills, or Mt. Rushmore, etc.  During those trips, she became enchanted with American Bison (buffalo) which are again becoming plentiful in that part of the country.  You can drive in close proximity to huge herds roaming on open plains.  She collected buffalo novelties and curios which she displayed in a large cabinet.  Her e-mail address began "buffalonikki".

On the way home from visiting my daughter on Christmas day, I took Germantown-Middletown Road for a change of pace.  And what to my wondering eyes should appear but two huge buffalo in a field not far south of Germantown.  They were the first two I had ever seen outside of a zoo.  Poignant.

Here is an interesting thing you may never have seen.  The following is a gramatically correct and meaningful sentence.
"Buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo."
