RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

4/15/2013

APRIL 15

On this date in 1969, North Korean MiG-17 fighter jets shot down a US Navy EC-121 reconnaissance plane over the Sea of Japan.  All 31 Americans on board were killed.

The North Koreans admitted attacking the plane claiming it had entered their air space.  The US Government under Richard Nixon disputed that charge but chose not to retaliate.  We did continue to send reconnaissance planes into the area.

The date of this tragedy coincided with the birthday of North Korean dictator Kim Il-Sung.  I give you all this info in case you were thinking they were not crazy enough to do something to us today.
