RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

JOHN Q PUBLIC

Amid all the news about the Boston Marathon Bombing, I note a little noticed fact.  Although there were literally thousands of police-types on the case, (including Boston city police, neighboring city police, state police, neighboring state police, FBI agents, ATF agents, National guardsmen, SWAT teams, snipers, armored car units, motorcycle units, helicopter observers, firemen, city street department workers) it was plain old citizens who helped save the day.

Plain old citizens were seen taking their belts off to tourniquet shattered limbs.  Pictures show plain old citizens pushing maimed victims away from the bomb site toward rescue vehicles.  Plain old citizens put names to the faces on the FBI photos.  A plain old citizen found the younger suspect in his hiding spot.

Its great that we have such a large police force available (and almost scary) but don't minimize what John Q. Public can do.  When crisis arises, do your part.
