12 APOSTLES

Peter was the most famous of the Apostles of Jesus.  He, James and John were closest to Jesus of all the Apostles and were given the honor of observing the Transfiguration.  Peter was the spokesman for the group; always most vocal and with Jesus at most critical times.  He denied he knew Jesus when He was being persecuted and crucified.  But in the end, he was the one that Jesus entrusted to lead his Church.

James the son of Zebedee was one of the "sons of thunder" as Jesus dubbed them because of their blustery loudness. He was the first of the Apostles to be martyred.

James' brother John was the beloved apostle and the other "son of thunder'.  John ran to the cave and arrived first when told Christ had risen.  He was the only Apostle not to die as a martyr.

These three were the "inner circle" of the group of 12.
