RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CHEMISTRY

Last Sunday I listed the ingredients listed on the side of a Diet Coke bottle.  In my continuing effort to inform, here is the list on a bottle of SoBe Lifewater which my spouse is substituting for Coke.  It is called a nutrient enhanced hydration beverage with 0 calories and no artificial sweeteners.

Filtered water
Erythritol
Citric acid
Natural flavor
Ascorbic acid
Calcium lactate
Xanthan gum
Red A
Potassium citrate
Black carrot juice concentrate
Vitamin E acetate
Niacinamide
Ginger extract
Dandelion root extract
Calcium pantothenate
Cochineal extract
Pyridoxine hydrochloride
Caramel color
Cyanocobalamin

This is it.  I didn't make up any of these words.  The erythritol is a sugar alcohol with near-zero calories.  Xanthan gum is a thickener derived from the bacteria formed when sugars ferment.  Cochineal is an insect from which a red color is taken. Most of the others are vitamins.

This must be good for you.
