SPEED KILLS

Last night the Cincinnati Reds defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 1-0 behind the 2-hit pitching of Homer Bailey.  A double by Todd Fraser following a single by Ryan Ludwick accounted for the only run of the game.

What happened between the Ludwick hit and the Fraser hit is significant. Manager Dusty Baker sent rookie Billy Hamilton into his first major league game to run for Ludwick.  Hamilton runs faaaaaaasssssssttttttt and is a great base stealer.  He stole second as soon as he had a chance against the best catcher in baseball, Yadier Molina.  Molina rushed and did not make his usual good throw.  With Hamilton standing on second base, the Cardinal pitcher was so distracted that he allowed the slumping Fraser to smash the game-winning hit.

To finish the night of speed, Aroldis Chapman made his first appearance in nine days pitching the ninth inning.  His fast ball reached 103 mph and the Red Birds were blown away.  Speed Kills.
