PHILOMENA
I have started my yearly quest to see most of the best movie pictures before the Academy Awards are presented. Last week, I saw Philomena. It is marvelous and definitely a contender for best picture. I fear the subject matter will deter the project from being picked tops.
It spans all of your emotions; sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes joyful, sometimes cruel. It provokes both love and anger; smiles and tears.
The title role is played by Judi Dench who is perfect for it. She will compete for best actress, I'm sure. Steve Coogan is the male lead and does a good job. If they consider him for lead actor, he may miss out. If he falls under supporting actor, he has a chance.
