ART

You may not be aware that my father-in-law was a fabulous artist.  He dedicated his working life to it.  An article about him was run in The Enquirer when he was in high school; he made a remarkable drawing of Cincinnati's Union Terminal as it was being built.  A short term display of his work was hung at the Cincinnati Art Museum.

When I dated his daughter, I often went downstairs to his workshop and watched in wonder.  To make a living, he painted show card signs for conventions, script on trucks and trailers,  and large wall advertising signs.  In his spare time, he made beautiful pictures, frames and carvings.  Most of his work was given away.

It seemed none of his five children or eight grandchildren received or developed his gift.  Maybe, just maybe, the third generation will pick up the mantle.  As a first grader, Ben had his drawing of a giraffe selected for the cover of a school book.  Now, our sixth grader, Evan, has had a painting selected to be displayed at the State Office building in Columbus.    Way to go, Ev!
