Today we celebrate the birth of Martin Luther King, Jr. His actual birthday was January 15, 1929.
The name his parents gave him at birth was Michael King. His father, a Baptist minister also named Michael, had both their names changed in 1934 to honor the religious reformer of the 16th century.
MLK JR was a man ahead of his time!
He skipped two grades in school and entered college at age 15. King graduated from Morehouse College in 1948 (age 19) with a B.A. degree in sociology ; from Crozer Theological Seminary with a B. Div. in 1951 (age 22); and from Boston University with a Ph D in 1955 (age 26).
In 1964 (age 35), he became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
In 1968 (age 39), he was assassinated.
