The Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President BHO on March 23, 2010. By March 31, 2014, everyone was supposed to be signed up or face penalty.
My recollection about the facts are fuzzy so I tried to look up the important numbers. Here's what I came up with.
During the preceding election cycle, our President proposed a plan to provide health coverage for all of the estimated 45 million people who were without it at some time each year. This was supposed to eventually reduce the overall cost of health care in the country.
The United States Bureau of Census reported that in 2011 there were 48.6 million residents uninsured. After the legislation was passed, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated that the law would reduce the number of uninsured by 32 million leaving 26 million by 2019. That means the CBO people thought there were 58 million uninsured.
Is your head swimming yet? Don't worry, the numbers get smaller.
Why was the administration goal for sign-ups for health care a measly 7 million by March 31st? ...and why were they so excited that they got 7.1 million? ...and how many of those 7.1 million already had insurance?
My head is swimming!
