On this date in 1946, Italy changed its form of government from monarchy to republic. By a vote of the people, the king was exiled and a new constitution adopted. It had been a monarchy for over one hundred years and has been a republic ever since. Today, Italians celebrate Festa della Repubblica. I think I'll have some 'grape juice' and join in the celebration.
