WHEN I WAS A KID

When I was a kid, there were fire works but not many large displays.  Municipalities didn't have them.  I think they considered it an expense they couldn't afford.  Each of the cities had its parade but no fireworks that I recall.

The large fireworks displays in the Cincinnati area were by the country clubs.  I distinctly remember people in my town talking about the display at nearby Maketewah Country Club.  I know that the old country clubs at Terrace Park, Camargo, Kenwood and Losantiville also had large displays.

Someone brought a few big fireworks to our house one year.  A relative, I suppose.  The rockets were set off in our back yard.  My mother was so afraid she wouldn't let me out of the house while they were being fired.  I had to watch through a back window.

I inherited this fear from grandma. Every year I would literally seize up when my kids would get anywhere near fireworks. If Scot wasn't there to make me somewhat rational, they would have been inside! Thanks Grandma:)
