TECHNOLOGY

THEY say this is the Age of Technology.  Here's what I think about that.

Yesterday, Apple introduced the iPhone 6 rendering my phone officially 'out of date'.  It will be available in two weeks. The '6' and '6 plus' models have larger screens and better cameras than my old '5'.  I don't know if I'll sleep tonight.

They followed that up with the introduction of the iWatch which will be available near the end of the year.   This cute little gizmo will not only tell time, it will find your car, open hotel room doors, get you through the boarding line at the airport and pay bills just like a credit card.  The "wipe your butt" app is still in the works.

Before you run to the Apple Store, let me tell you the following TRUE story.  (For the most part, all of my stories are true.)

The Hamilton Watch Co. developed the first digital electronic wristwatch in 1970.  Two years later, they introduced the first digital wristwatch to the consumer market.  It was called the Pulsar and sold for $2,100.00 (In today's money, that would be $11,400).  It was made of 18 carat gold and used red LEDs (light emitting diodes).  You had to press a button to see the time - that saved on batteries.

By 1978, just six years later, you could by a plastic digital electronic watch for $10.00  Everybody had one or twelve.  In the early 1980's, they were giving them away in cereal boxes and at McDonald's with happy meals.

It may be the Age of Technology but don't be the first to jump in the pool - the water may not be the temperature you thought it was..
