I see where 'W' has written a book about '41'. '41' is what George Walker Bush calls his dad - the 41st President of the United States. I wish I could do that with my dad. This wont be a book but here's what I remember. I'll write a little more each Saturday.
Donald James was born on February 12, 1920 to Corine (Cora) and Harry Joseph Lysaght. Cora was 39 and Harry was 43 years-old. Harry was the son of an Irish immigrant, Patrick, from County Clare. Dad was born in their house on Paradrome Street in the Mt. Adams area of Cincinnati. None of his siblings were born in a hospital.
Don was the 12th and final of their children. Two of Dad's female siblings, Lillian and Helen, died before he was born - probably of influenza. I'm not sure when two others died.
Another sister, Rose, died in our house when I was nine-years-old. She was small, sickly and unmarried. She was spending time in each of her siblings houses. Rose stayed in the extra bedroom on the third floor of our house. I remember the ambulance coming and the frightened look on my mother's face. My mom said she died because she didn't want to go to some other brother's house where she might not have been treated so well.
I knew most of his other siblings. Harold Joseph was 18 years older than my dad. He and wife Nora lived in a house in the St. Bernard area and he made wine in his basement. Emmett was 14 years older than dad. He was married to Agnes and was in the plumbing supply business at Mutual Mfg. Larry Joseph was eight years older than dad. He was married to Genevieve and he was a plumber. Agnes married Paul Doherty and lived in the Mt Washington area. Roger Daniel was four years older than dad and was a confirmed bachelor. He lived on Mt. Adams and worked at U.S. Playing Card Co. Stanley Patrick was three years older than dad. He married Helen and lived on the west side of town after leaving Mt. Adams. Stanley worked in the printing business.
