You may know that I volunteer regularly at Matthew 25 Ministries. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the poorest of the poor.
Today's reading is at the heart of Matthew's gospel, chapter 25. It is often summed up like this: "Whatsoever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me." It expands further last week's message that we must not only love God but our neighbor. But here, it is a call to action . . . to do something positive. It tells us that you do not love God if you ignore your neighbor. Jesus said, "Whatsoever you did not do for those in need, you did not do for me."
