On this date in 1964, Jeopardy aired for the first time on network television.  The game created by Merv Griffin was hosted on NBC by Art Fleming.  That's 51 years ago today.

On this date in 1981, 25 year-old John Hinckley Jr. shot and attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan outside a Washington D.C. hotel.  Hinckley claimed he was trying to impress actress Jodie Foster. He was acquitted of the crime because of his insanity.  He still lives in a psychiatric institution but is allowed visits to his parent's home.  That's 34 years ago today.
