Today is the second Sunday of Lent and as usual we have the story of the Transfiguration. It is the event when Jesus allowed three of his Apostles to see Him as God.
I am drawn today to look at our reading from the Book of Genesis. In it, Abraham is ordered by God to take his only son, Isaac, and sacrifice him as a holocaust - that means kill him. It was a test and Abraham passed. He was going to do it when he was stopped at the last minute. God then told him that he would be the father of all His people.
Jews consider him their father; the first Jew and the father of their faith. Catholics call him "our father in faith". In Islam, Abraham is an important link in the line of prophets Mohammad. He is mentioned in 35 chapters of the Quran.
Could you have passed the test that Abraham was asked to perform?
