WHY

Why are cloths washers called 'washers' and dish washers called 'dish washers'?  Why is a washing machine a clothes washer.  One is a washing machine and the other is not?  Does that make sense?  Dish washers dry dishes and clothes washers do not dry clothes.  Maybe we should put our clothes in the dish washer and be done with it.  Some day I'll try that.
