LAUGH OR CRY

Are you ticklish?  Were you more ticklish when you were younger?   Were you ever tickled so much that you cried?..or peed your pants?  Can you be tickled by anyone?  Can you be tickled anywhere on your body?  Why are we ticklish?

Interesting questions on a ticklish subject.  (Pun intended)  Aristotle, the famous Greek philosopher, mused about why we cannot tickle ourselves.  (You can't)   Charles Darwin theorized that tickling was a bonding ritual between parent and child.

I'm pretty sure of this.  You were more ticklish when you were younger.  For the most part, someone you dislike cannot tickle you. Oh! And excessive tickling can be abusive.

Interestingly, the most ticklish spots on the body are those most vulnerable to attack by an enemy (just under the rib cage, under arm and at the knee).   This leads one to think that tickling a child may be preparation for a defensive response.  Children fight off tickling and learn to fight off an enemy attack.

Have I tickled your interest?  .
