When I was a kid, the first day of school was the day after Labor Day (the first Monday in September). The last day of school was in the first week of June.
Of course, we didn't have air conditioning in the classrooms or anywhere in school. We also, didn't have 'snow days'. If it snowed, you got to school when you could.
We never heard of a 'teachers in service day'...whatever that euphemism stands for.
We didn't have long weekends. They hadn't moved all holidays to Monday at that point. We were off between Christmas and New Years Days.
I know, you've heard this BS from old people before.
