Today is Immaculate Conception Day. It is a Holy Day of Obligation for the Catholic Church in the US, Ireland and the Philippines. It is a national holiday in over 20 countries.
The Immaculate Conception is a religious belief that separates Catholics from some Christian as well as all non-christian religions. Catholic dogma states that all persons except Mary, the mother of Jesus, were conceived and born with sin and the propensity to sin. She, on the other hand, was conceived without sin. This is what made her worthy to carry the Son of God.
In France, Mary is honored with the Festival of Lights in Lyon. In Panama, the day is known as Mother's Day in Mary's honor. At the University of Dayton, today is called Christmas on Campus day. Well, parrrrrty hard!!!
