Here I go again dabbling into something about which I know very little. Think about this the next time you are teaching, instructing or coaching.
Try starting with the finish. Give, show or demonstrate the answer first; the finished product. I think the student's mind will be able to better and more quickly fill in the blanks.
Here's an example: In teaching the golf swing, the standard is to begin with the grip; then the stance and address position; then the take-away; then the backswing; then the transition from backswing to swing; then the swing; then the follow through and finally the finish. I just betcha that doing those things in reverse will be comprehended by the student more quickly. The same thing could be used for math or science. We already have students read good literature before we expect them to compose it (don't we?).
If a person is ever going to create something original, they will need to have a vision of the outcome before they start. So let's get them used to that process early on.
Okay, have at it all you teachers and coaches and parents. Try the finish first.
