RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

3/28/2016

MARCH 28

This may mean little to you unless you are an avid follower of The Vikings TV show like I am.  On this date in 845 AD, Ragnar Lothbrok led a band of Vikings in an attack on the city of Paris.  They invaded and sacked the city and received a huge ransom of gold and silver just to leave.  Ragnar brought over 100 ships and more than 5,000 men to the siege.

The king of West Francia (France) at the time was Charles the Bald.  In deference to my appearance, I'll make no further comment about the king.

If you don't follow the TV show, you should at least know that it really happened.  I guess the French have always had trouble defending their city.
