RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

3/07/2016

MARCH 7

On this date in 1876, Alexander Graham Bell received a U.S. patent for an invention he called the "telephone"; kind of a telegraph for the human voice.  He was just four days past his 29th birthday.

Bell was Scottish; he was born and lived in Edinburgh;  he eventually acquired homes in Canada and the U.S.  He became a U.S. citizen when he was 35 years-old.

In 140 years, communications has gone from his patent to crank to dial to pushbutton to iPhone to Bluetooth to FaceTime to iWatch.  Where could we possibly go with communications in the next 140 years?

I suppose ET *will be able to* 'phone home'.
