APRIL 18

On this date in 1480, Lucrezia Borgia was born.  "Who the hell is that?", you say.

She was the daughter of Vannozza dei Cattanei.  Miss Cattanei was the consort of Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia of the Roman Catholic church.  Rodrigo later became Pope Alexander VI.  Lucrezia was one of four children the future Pope fathered with this lady.  He claimed he fathered other children by other women.

Lucrezia was born in Rome.  The Borgia were a noble Italian family.  She was a femme fatale and was portrayed as such in many paintings, movies and literary works.  Lucrezia was married three times - all to Italian noblemen.  Her name is synonymous with someone who sleeps their way to the top.
