Have you read the Declaration of Independence recently? Try it some time - it's good for you.
The justifying preamble is so important and so memorable. "We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin were among those who authored these lines.
Do you think they really meant "all men"? Slave holding was still the norm in many of the original colonies. Do you think they were excluding women when they said "men"? Women were not allowed to vote when this Country was founded. Do you think they meant "all men" from all countries? Do you think the Creator they referred to was only the Christian God and not Yahweh or Allah or Elohim or Vishnu? Was this preamble a "declaration" or a dream?
